The article places the production function of French forests in the European context and describes the main features of the outlook for this function. Based on international statistics, the article deals with the following issues : Where are the main wood-producing regions located in Europe? How important is the production function in generating income? What is the outlook for this production function ? What are the choices to be made and challenges to be met for the future? Against a background of slow but sustained growth of the forest sector, the article underscores two major issues : dendroenergy and the need to continuously innovate so as to remain competitive.
