Climate engineering has entered the debate on climate change as a potential alternative or complement to mitigation and adaptation climate policies. This relatively new concept encompasses a large range of techniques aiming to the deliberate and large-scale modification of the environment in order to alleviate the impacts of climate change. This article will classify and discuss these techniques in terms of their potential, viability and risks.
