The merger between the Institut national agronomique de Paris-Grignon, the Ecole nationale superieure des industries agricoles et alimentaires and the Ecole nationale du genie rural, des eaux et des forets on January 1, 2007 produced AgroParisTech. The article describes the consequences, both recorded and predicted, of this merger on advanced forestry education in France. It begins by showing that AgroParisTech has acquired international stature and is integrated in the European higher education space (the Bologna process). A distinguishing feature is that it does not offer education at the “Bachelor’s” level. It goes on to analyse the major consequences that the merger is likely to produce at all three of the levels currently offered to train engineers – the current FIF syllabus, the post-master and the doctorate level. Finally, it outlines the conditions the author believes need to be fulfilled to ensure that the incorporation of French higher education in forestry into AgroParisTech is a success.
