More than a hundred students and former students of the French National Water and Forest Schools were killed in battle during the First World War. This paper proposes an analysis of the military circumstances underlying the death of these men, in particular how they were deployed, based on the individual data base held by the French Ministry of Defence and regulations in force at the time relative to call-up and deployment of forest rangers.
