The President of the Republic concluded the first phase of the Grenelle Consultations on the Environment on October 25, 2007. The consultations outlined a number of major work areas that very significantly involve forests and timber (construction, energy efficiency, renewable energies and carbon, natural resources and biodiversity, territories). In so doing, the Grenelle Consultations placed the forestry and forest-based industries at the heart of the means to be used to meet the challenge of climate change. At the forestry convention, the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries encouraged all the players in the forestry and forest-based industries to translate these objectives into concrete action. Senator Philippe Leroy was entrusted with the task of presiding over an operational Forestry Committee in late 2007 and handed in his report in mid-March. The article describes the content of these proceedings.
