Supervisor’s supporting comments I am very pleased to nominate Despina Kalogianni for the 2011 Bioanalysis Young Investigator Award. I know very well the work and progress of Despina since she pursued graduate studies towards a PhD under my supervision. During that period I had the opportunity to form a solid opinion about her qualities and performance. Despina has an excellent background knowledge that is important especially for interdisciplinary research. She performed her research carefully, cheerfully, with good attention to detail and a remarkable ability in data interpretation. She is a sharp, inquisitive, highly motivated and very hard-working scientist. She can assimilate very quickly new knowledge and techniques and move creatively to develop and implement her own ideas. She always aims at the highest quality of research. In my opinion, the most accurate criterion that proves unequivocally the outstanding scientific quality of Despina is her achievement to publish regularly in the top scientific journals of the field. Furthermore, the uttermost recognition of her quality is that she was selected as a participant of the 59th Meeting of Nobel Prize Winners in Chemistry (2009) at Lindau (Germany). The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings provide a globally recognized forum for the exchange of knowledge between Nobel Laureates and young researchers.
