Degassing of mercury from two forested soils located in central Alberta was monitored for 2 yr. Gaseous mercury emanations were consistently detected as Hg-purges beginning in August and ending in October. The degassing rate measured over forest litter layers was near 180 μg Hg/(m 2 ∙yr).
