Lambs were injected with 500 mg of iron as iron-dextran at an average of 3 days of age. Blood hemoglobin and packed cell volume values increased immediately after the injection and continued to increase to 4 wk of age. In control lambs these parameters declined to 3 wk of age and increased thereafter. Average liveweight of the lambs was increased by the iron treatment.
