Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and -β are cytokines with a wide range of inflammatory, apoptotic and immunomodulatory activities. TNF-α promoter -308 G < A polymorphism has been reported to be associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with inconsistent results.
