Bioassay-directed fractionation led to the identification of a new compound, 4-hydroxy-heptadec-6-enoic acid ethyl ester (1) together with three known compounds (2-4) from Tinospora sinensis. The structure of 1 was determined by analysis of spectroscopic data. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitory activity. Compounds 1 and 2 displayed significant inhibitory activity with IC 50 values 61.1 and 74.2 μM, respectivel
