The Middle and Upper Cambrian strata on northeast Ellesmere Island are placed in a single unit, the Cass Fjord Formation, with Lower, Middle, and Upper members. The boundary between the Lower and Middle members of the Cass Fjord Formation is chosen at the base of a variegated unit that is readily traced in the field and on airphotos. The boundary between the Middle and Upper members of the Cass Fjord Formation is chosen at a major unconformity that is difficult to recognize in the field and on airphotos. The Lower and Middle members comprises a major unconformity-bounded sequence containing four shallowing-upward cycles that correlate with the deeper water Hazen Formation unit C. The Upper Member comprises a major unconformity-bounded sequence containing two shallowing-upward cycles and correlates with Hazen Formation unit D. 2001-B4 K.
