This was a case study carried out with the purpose of analyzing the clinical and anthropometrical profile of diabetes patients who participated in a one-year education program implemented by the Preventive Medicine Service - SEMPRE. Data were collected from November 2002 to April 2003, using the information system called SEMPRE-Quality of life. The information obtained were about the variables regarding body weight, arterial pressure and capillary glucose after meals. Eighty-six patients were registered at SEMPRE between June and November 2001, 44 of whom were excluded because they discontinued attendance to sessions. Student’s t-test was used for statistical analysis. Forty-two (100%) patients participated, 36 (85.7%) of whom are type-2 and 6 (14.3%) type 1-patients. As to variables related to clinical and anthropometrical parameters, it was found a 23.8% reduction in average capillary glucose levels after meals, 6.7% in systolic arterial pressure, 7% in diastolic arterial pressure and an average weight loss of 1.92kg after 12 months of participation in SEMPRE. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference for the mean capillary glucose after meals and mean diastolic blood pressure for type-2 diabetes patients. These results show that the work accomplished by multi-professional diabetes teams can make a difference in reducing some clinical and anthropometrical profile.
