In this article I discuss one of the most controversial ethical dilemmas in our markets: prostitution. I do it from a solidarity economy approach supported by the philosophy of egalitarianism and communitarianism. Our goals are at least three: First, to include the concept of market and commodities in the framework of a substantive economy. In the second place, to analyze some egalitarian positions which ascribe to prostitution a complex status of commodity which deserves a careful ethical approach. Finally, to try to answer the question of whether or not the values and principles of solidarity economy could allow sex to be bought and sold just as any other commodity. Keywords: prostitution, commodity, ethics, solidarity economy.
