Um Rio Grande do Sul narrado: identidade regional no Jornal Nacional

This article analyzes how journalism interprets facts and in doing so attributes senses to the experience in society. For this purpose, we take TV journalism and analyze two reports aired on Rede Globo’s Jornal Nacional (evening news). Both have been selected as an analytical cut because of the regional identity elements they present in the narrative and which is recurrent in the media about Rio Grande do Sul State. Based on this phenomenon we establish an association between cultural studies and narrative theories, understanding journalism as a cultural form with aesthetic and political materiality. We take the model of the culture circuit ( Johnson, 1999) to perform the analysis. The communicative process is studied as a whole, which makes it possible to establish a relationship between the journalistic production, the text, its consumption and the implications in the social fabric.
