The present study is a research process in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and examines the process of psychological change in a psychotherapy session of a patient with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, integrating different sources of information. Psychotherapeutic sessions were audio-recorded and transcribed. This is a qualitative study with a systematic case study design. The measures used in this study were taken by: Adherence to Psychoanalytic Technique Instrument to check adherence to the psychoanalytic technique and Therapeutic Cycles Model to identify moments of change in the therapeutic process through the language patterns of the psychotherapist and he patient, taken from the demarcation of the therapeutic cycles. The session was examined by means of content analysis. The findings indicate that the combination of objective measurements – audio recording of the sessions and instruments – with a psychodynamic and qualitative analysis allows us to understand, in a systematic way, significant moments of the therapeutic sessions. Keywords: psychotherapy, therapeutic process, instruments.
