The article shows the results of a study carried out between 2013 and 2015 with 56 economic organizations that implement an associative enterprise of self-managed work in the commune of Huechuraba, Metropolitan Region of Santiago, Chile. At the conceptual level, the category of social technology is used to understand the relationships between these organizations, for which this article describes five actual communities that show the sociotechnical integration of their social technology, on the basis of which one can understand the creation of a labor union that represents them before the local government. The conclusion is that the category of social technology helps to assess the variables that are present in the collective actions that build the urban popular economy, and that their uses may be relevant factors in designing public policies that seek to foster the associative and cooperative economy. Keywords : social technology, urban popular economy, self-managed work.
