This paper aims to investigate the motivations that have led students to the teacher training course on Social Sciences at UFMT. In recent years we can see some changes in this course such as the introduction of the Institutional Program of Initiation into Teaching - PIBID/Sociology/UFMT, new approaches to supervised internship as well as a greater presence teachers qualified in Social Sciences at the local schools. The impact of these changes was investigated in a qualitative research project with in-depth interviews, starting from semi-structured script and with a sample of eight Bachelor’s Degree students of Social Sciences. The results indicated that the profile of students has changed. Before, the course attracted lot of working students/graduates, just like most evening courses. Today, the entrants’ profile is younger. The motivations of these young people have been twofold: an admiration for inspiring teachers and a view of Sociology as a science required to unravel the complexity involved in social relations. Keywords: sociology, teacher training, graduation.
