The article discusses the necessity of applying a design methodology in the teaching of subjects related to the development of architectural projects in undergraduate courses in architecture. The methodological approach adopted here works with the resumption of modern design criteria, and the conceptual basis employed is directly related to those points of view used by modern international and national masters. The material collected for this approach is found in articles written by Mies van der Rohe, Gropius, Le Corbusier, Lucio Costa, Pinon, Rowe, among others. Thus, the conceptual basis for this discussion is directed to the understanding of the variations of this article, which are architecture, architectural design, teaching of design methodology – insofar as they are related to principles of modernity. The article observes the relationship between these variations and how they interact in teaching practice, as well as the results of adopting this methodological proposal.
