Las matemáticas del control

In this article we discuss some issues related with Control Theory addressing its origin, main motivations and historical evolution. We describe some of the fundamental mathematical ingredients of the theory, and some of the major breakthroughs, characterized both by their mathematical depth and their implications from a technological, industrial and social viewpoint. We also mention some challenging open problems that will very likely influence the development of the discipline in the coming years. En este artículo analizamos algunos aspectos de la Teoría de Control que incluyen consideraciones sobre sus orígenes, sus motivaciones y su evolución. Describimos algunos elementos matemáticos fundamentales y diversos avances que se caracterizan a la vez por su interés científico y su transcendencia desde un punto de vista social, tecnológico e industrial. También, mencionamos algunos de los retos que se plantean en esta disciplina para un futuro inmediato
