This paper describes the key capabilities and features of the Royal Norwegian Navy’s new multi-role Logistics and Support Vessel, HNoMS Maud, and discusses the benefits and drawbacks of a multi-role vessel considering some typical operational scenarios. It examines some of the design challenges and constraints encountered due to the multi-role nature of the vessel and the implications of standards on the design.
