Consideration of the key requirements for a helideck in the early stages of design will ensure that customer the wishes and technical requirements can be met, without unduly constraining an innovative design process. It is the objective of this paper therefore to provide the Superyacht designer with some basic guidance to the design of a helideck, such that it can be demonstrated to be “safe by design” as part of this design process. This in turn may be used to support safe helicopter operations and provide a good basis for certification should it be required at any point during the yacht’s life-time.
