Nowadays direct searches of dark matter are one of the most exciting research topics with many experimental efforts. The scattering of Weakly Interactive Massive Particles (WIMPs) into the detector induces nuclear recoils and detectable signals. NEWSdm is the new dark matter search experiment with the nuclear emulsion detector which is able to reconstruct the direction of the nucleus recoiling against the scattering WIMP. Exploiting directionality would also prove the galactic origin of Dark Matter with an unambiguous signal-to-background separation. Here we explain the NEWSdm detector and present the discovery potential of a directional experiment based on the use of a solid target made of newly developed nuclear emulsions.
