A fully-integrated genetic analysis microsystem incorporates all the processing steps including sample pretreatment, polymerase chain reaction, and optical/electrochemical detection in a single wafer by using lab-on-a-chip technology. Such a fully integrated system can perform a portable DNA and RNA analysis with high speed, reproducibility, and simplicity and can be applied for human forensic identification, pathogen detection, food safety testing, and pollutant environmental screening.
