Theoretical and practical issues of income inequality are analysed in the article. The concept of economic inequality as well as literature analysis along with principal causes and measures of income inequality are presented in the article. When evaluating the interrelationship between income inequality and economic cycles, the impact of economic fluctuations on income inequality is assessed; factors, affecting income inequality during the periods of economic growth and recession are identified. Statistical data as well as calculations allowing of making some conclusions on interrelationship between income inequality and economic cycles are presented
