The paper analyses problems of correlation between the results of dynamic probing (DPSH – Super heavy dynamic probing) and cone penetration tests, typically conducted on soil that need to have certain stiffness requirements in order to support the foundations of bridges, overhead roads, and overpasses. The authors report on their study of geological cross-sections of cohesive soils in Lithuania, focusing on correlation dependencies. They discuss the reliability of dynamic probing and modern methods of results correction, and evaluate the effect of DPSH rods and lateral stress of soils on the results of probing. Results must be translated to the normal values, because the results of DPSH tests are not used directly in the design of pile foundations on cohesive soils. They cover differences between methods of cone penetration tests and dynamic probing; the efficiency analysis of DPSH energy transfer; the influence of soil lateral friction with rods for the blow count; the soil horizontal geostatical stress influence on probing data; and correlation studies.
