Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases in the male population worldwide. This type of cancer can be detected early in a basic health unit through the evaluation of the prostate with the digital rectal exam, and the serum prostate specific antigen. Objective: evaluating the prevention of prostate cancer in primary care from the analysis of scientific productions. Method: it was decided to carry out an integrative review, using the descriptors: human health, primary care, prostate, prostate cancer and men's health; the databases consulted were LILACS, SciELO and PubMED, from 2008 to September 2015. Results: the findings showed that interventions associated to health education may result in changes of behavior and habits of health, particularly for individuals who have risk factors or are in the early stages of the disease. Conclusion: it is expected that this study will encourage professionals of the units to initiate changes that result in a better acceptance of men to action and better efficiency indexes in the collection and treatment of patients with cancer. In addition, it is necessary that these actions advance and become routine in institutions, not restricted to the campaigns of "Blue November", but forming part of the daily planning of the Family Health Strategy.
