An analysis on the role played by religion in the education systems in two secular jurisdictions, France and Ireland. This article addresses the inequalities and rights violations suffered by children in these states under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in particular by non-Catholic or unbaptised children in Ireland, and Muslim girls in France. Arguments drawn are grounded in republican theory and secularism.
