Tetrazole are class of synthetic organic heterocyclic compounds consisting of five-member ring of four nitrogen and one carbon atom (plus hydrogen). The simplest is tetrazole itself CN4H2. It is white to pale yellow crystalline solid with weak characteristic odour, soluble in water and alcohol. It is acidic in nature due to presence of four nitrogen atoms. Numbering of tetrazoles is as shown below.
