Small bowel diverticula are a rare cause of complicated diverticular disease; however, up to 30% of patients with jejunoileal diverticula develop complications. Intestinal obstruction secondary to small bowel diverticulosis may be due to the presence of an enterolith, adhesions, invagination, and / or intestinal volvulus. The size of the diverticula seems to correlate with obstructive complications, as well as diverticula of more than 3 cm which have been related to the presence of additional complications, as occurs in our case.
