An intense search i s under w a y in many areas to prevent the introduct ion o f glassy-winged sharpshooter, a nonnative invasive insect l inked to the spread of Xyllelafastidiosa, the bacterium that causes Pierce’s disease. Since many people have not seen the glassy-winged sharpshooter, i t can be confused with other insects occurring in vineyards and backyards (”look-a-likes”). The following photos and descriptions are useful tools in correctly iden t i f y ing this pest.
