Dedication I would like to dedicate this thesis to those who had supported me the most over the past four years. I would like to thank my family for their unconditional love and support and Blair Orr, who as an advisor, goes above and beyond the call of duty. Both abroad and upon return, his active support speaks to his belief in a program for volunteers making the most of their experience abroad. Lastly, I would like to dedicate this work to the kids and young adults of Bahía Negra that I had the pleasure to spend time with. My wishes are with those who will continue to participate actively in the community and care for the natural environment which they know more intimately than most. As in many parts of Paraguay, Bahía Negra overflows with a full guampa of yerba, a smile, and good old fashioned hospitality Para la comunidad de Bahía Negra. Donde la yvytu oipeju piro ho'ysa hasy norte hatã.
