During our work we compared two examination methods used for investigating the metallic surface area (MSA) of coronary stents. Each measurement process was tried on different type of stents. Both methods aimed at converting the cylindrical stent into a flattened two-dimensional image. The first method was manually performed using a stereomicroscope. The second method, which has recently been developed, is an automatized method using an integrated scanner and rotating engine. We also determined the largest and the smallest cell sizes from these flattened stent pattern. Our findings showed the largest difference between the two methods was the speed and the accuracy.
