The main obstacles to "smart" business development in Ukraine, the part of which is a national industry, are the very low general level of development the domestic economy, which determines the available financial and economic resources for smart transformations. However, despite the deindustrialization process of the last decades, the industry, at least in part, keeps its potential, which is manifested in a relatively good index of manufacturing complexity. Conclusions. Thus, it is advisable to implement a set of measures in the areas of institutions, technologies and economics that will contribute to the accelerated development of the smart industry. Institutional measures taken to promote the cultivation of special institutions "smart" transformation industry. Technological measures should be directed primarily to the formation of integrated broadband infrastructure for industry: Integrated reliable and high-quality communication networks is a key requirement for the development of Industry 4.0
