This study was to examine the effect of fundamental nursing theoretical class and practice education of rubric application for an outcome-based program on learning attitude, problem solving process, and self-directed learning ability of nursing students. For this study, one-group pretest-posttest design was used, and data were collected from 54 nursing students who completed a set of questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. The education program significantly increased the levels of learning attitude, problem solving process, and self-directed learning ability. In addition, learning attitude and problem-solving process, learning attitudes and self-directed learning abilitly, and problem-solving process and self-directed learning ability showed positive correlations, respectively. Therefore, it was confirmed that the application of rubrics of fundamental nursing has a positive effect on the improvement of quality of nursing education. It is necessary to continue research on development of rubrics of fundamental nursing theoretical class and practice education, program outcomes evaluation system, and effect of application.
