The objective of this study was to reveal the meanings and ways of using active methodologies by teachers of Natural Sciences in their teaching practices. Qualitative research was carried out in six state high schools with 18 teachers who work in the area, through semi-structured interviews, analyzed with the aid of the IRAMUTEQ software and in the light of the theoretical-methodological framework of Freirian Thought. The reports showed that some teachers attribute meanings of active methodologies articulated to the Freirian perspective, using them at times in their practices, such as the flipped classroom, debates and seminars; however, other teachers are unaware of its meaning and remain using only expository classes in their pedagogical practices. There is a need for encouragement and training of teachers in the use of active methodologies that favor transformative educational practices and the more significant learning in the field of Natural Sciences. Keywords:  Active Methodologies.
