The present research aims to analyze the occurrence of Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) in the abstracts of the highlighted works of the event Salao UFRGS Jovem 2019, in the area of Nature Sciences and its Technologies (NST). The event is held annually at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and organized by the Dean of Research, with the public of students of Basic Education and Technical Education of Middle Level. The qualitative research was based on an exploratory study of the 97 featured abstracts. Of these, 49 were analyzed, as they refer to the area of NST, originating the categories (Bardin, 2009) related to the themes approached. References by Perez (2012), Conrado and Nunes-Neto (2018), Galvao and Reis (2008), and Santos and Mortimer (2000) based this work on the STS (Science, Technology and Society) and SSI approaches. 86% of the analyzed abstracts presented the SSI approach. The predominant theme was Health, with 14 abstracts, followed by Environmental Pollution, with 13 abstracts; Mental Health, with 6 abstracts; Pesticides and Conscious Consumption, with 4 abstracts each; and Rural Technology, with 1 abstract. Thus, these themes, present in daily life and in the media, are being approached in basic education based on scientific research and shared in a scientific event, which contribute for students’ education and their knowledge construction. Keywords: Classroom Research. Scientific Event. Socio-Scientific Issues.
