The tropes and metaphors of disinformation It is a good time to be in the disinformation and misinformation business. Whether a commentator or company, publication or propagandist, all have enjoyed the tidal wave of resources that have poured into all things online media manipulation in the four years since 2016. As the work of MediaWell attests, simply keeping track of the emerging developments in the space—and rooting it in the established literature across many fields—is a Sisyphean effort.
