“The view of indigenous women on medicinal plants" was an extension project that took place in 2018, funded by the Instituto Federal de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia Baiano. In this project, conversations were held with the Indians of the villages to learn about the medicinal plants they used. It was possible to observe that they have a vast knowledge about medicinal plants, however they believe that this knowledge is being lost, as the younger ones do not value it. In addition to medicinal plants, they use the health service with allopathic medicines, mainly to control diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. After carrying out the rounds and collecting data, the scholarship holders returned to set up a vegetable garden at the children's school. This project made it possible to train extension workers who are more aware of the importance of indigenous knowledge and to preserve that knowledge, respecting it.
