espanolEl presente trabajo se propone indagar tres bibliotecas populares del sudoeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina) fundadas entre fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX por diferentes agrupaciones que compartian, sin embargo, la confianza en el poder de la cultura letrada como factor civilizatorio en localidades de reciente integracion al proyecto de consolidacion estatal nacional. En este sentido, se pretende analizar las complejas relaciones que establecieron estas bibliotecas con los poderes publicos y sus agencias burocraticas a nivel nacional, provincial y municipal, atendiendo particularmente a las tensiones generadas entre su reivindicacion autonomica y los reclamos de financiamiento y aval oficial que requerian para garantizar la continuidad y la ampliacion de su obra cultural. EnglishThis paper examine three popular libraries in the southwest of the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina), founded between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century by different groups that shared, however, their confidence in the power of written culture as a factor of civilization in locations recently integrated to the national state consolidation project. In this sense, it is intended to analyze the complex relationships established by these libraries with the public authorities and their bureaucratic agencies at the national, provincial and municipal levels, paying particular attention to the tensions generated between their claim of autonomy and the demands for financing and official endorsement required to ensure continuity and expansion of their cultural work. portuguesEste trabalho pretende investigar tres bibliotecas populares no sudoeste da provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina), fundadas entre o final do seculo XIX e o inicio do seculo XX por diferentes grupos que compartilhavam, no entanto, a confianca no poder da cultura letrada como fator da civilizacao em locais de recente integracao ao projeto de consolidacao do estado nacional. Nesse sentido, pretende-se analisar as complexas relacoes estabelecidas por essas bibliotecas com as autoridades publicas e seus orgaos burocraticos nos niveis nacional, provincial e municipal, dando atencao especial as tensoes geradas entre sua reivindicacao regional e as demandas de financiamento e endosso oficial que exigiram para assegurar a continuidade e expansao de seu trabalho cultural.
