Frequently used in diverse literary genres, fantastic mode has proved its efficiency to create uncanny atmospheres. Horror stories, for instance, often host fantastic strategies within its structures or motifs. Armando Vega-Gil used it in his novel Picnic en la fosa comun, as a perfect mean to interweave another: apocalyptic mode. In this article I will explore how these discourse modes intersect and trigger an uncanny horror, not completely fantastic but certainly effective for a long novel.
