This work aims to report the case of a Mangalarga Marchador mare, athlete, 6 years old, score 3, with a history of reproductive failure, having been negative for two seasons in the embryo washings at the Brazilian Journal of Animal and Environmental Research Braz. J. Anim. Environ. Res., Curitiba, v. 3, n. 2, p.638-647, abr./jun. 2020 ISSN 2595-573X 639 breeding center where she came from. The mare underwent clinical examinations, rectal palpation with ultrasound and treatment with luteolytic agent and follicular control until the appearance of estrus, when it was suggested to the owner not to perform insemination and collect material for cytology, bacterial culture and antibiogram. Cytology confirmed a endometritis, with 8 to 10 neutrophils per field. The presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found on bacterial culture. From the result of the antibiogram, the treatment started 10 days after the estrus detected with injectable Ceftiofur and luteolytic agent. In the subsequent estrus, treatment with ampicillin-based uterine infusions was performed. After resumption of reproductive management and ovulation induction, the mare was inseminated and presented a viable embryo. It was concluded that the therapeutic protocol adopted was successful, showing the importance of carrying out cytology, culture and antibiogram tests to correctly combat the main cause of infertility in mares.
