Social development, eradication of poverty and social inequalities are fundamental obligations of the State, provided for in the Federal Constitution. However, doing so has shown itself to be a complex task, since social development must take place in a sustainable way so that a relationship of perpetual dependence on the State is not created. In this scenario emerges the State Fund for Combating and Eradicating Poverty in the State of Rondônia (FECOEP-RO), aiming to combating and eradicating poverty in its territory. Thus, the present study aimed to analyse the programs implemented through FECOEP RO, aiming the promotion of sustainable social development in the state of Rondônia. This was an applied research, with a qualitative approach and a deductive method, being carried out through the field research, using a semi-structured script for interviews with those responsible for FECOEP in the Finance Department of the State of Rondônia (SEFIN) and in the Secretariat of Social Assistance (SEAS). Data collection was carried out from October 2016 to March 2017. The results showed that FECOEP (RO) social programs are still incipient practices in the state. The inefficiency of managers, the availability of resources for implementation and the lack of actions aimed at promoting sustainable social development in FECOEP (RO), led to a great inefficiency in the eradication of poverty in Rondônia, a proposal that motivated the creation of the fund.
