The teaching of Molecular Genetics is often seen as abstract or complex, due to the size and complexity of its components and processes studied. With the objective of facilitating teaching and integrating the academy to basic education, a Junior Scientific Initiation project (FAPES/CNPq) entitled "Bringing Genetics closer to the school context" was developed with the participation of eight high school students. During the implementation, theoretical and practical classes were held using different active methodologies in order to intermediate the teaching methods to stimulate student participation and development. Thus, conceptual maps, discussion wheels, visits and experiments in laboratories and university spaces, games and didactic models were planned, in addition to the confection of didactic materials in order to dynamize the teaching about the flow of genetic information, topic chosen by the participating students because they consider of greater difficulty of assimilation. The results showed that diversified, practical and dynamic teaching methods and the construction of teaching materials that illustrate the cellular processes of Replication, Transcription and Translation promote curiosity and scientific interest, acting in a positive way in teaching-learning.
