Formative assessment can be defined as a process of pedagogical assessment in which the teacher monitors the evolution of students during the teaching and learning procedure. By using this pedagogical tool, the teacher is able to identify flaws in the teaching process, which can be modified to ensure that the learning objectives are achieved satisfactorily by all students. In this perspective, this study proposes the objective of conducting a bibliographic survey of scientific researches that present the contributions of formative evaluation in the continuing education of the teacher in office. To achieve the objective of Brazilian Journal of Development Braz. J. of Develop., Curitiba, v. 6, n. 5, p.29784-29794, may. 2020. ISSN 2525-8761 29785 the investigation, it seemed appropriate to use a qualitative, descriptive and interpretive research methodology. In this study we present the concept of formative assessment; formative assessment & the teaching-learning process; and finally, the formative assessment & continuous training of the teacher in office.
