This study aims to relate Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) theories to Effectuation studies, through convergent and divergent aspects, under the logic of contingency exploration, as opposed to Causation that seeks predictability aspects in entrepreneurial actions. In addition, it aimed to highlight the importance of considering the cognitive characteristics and heuristics of the entrepreneur of small organizations that, with multispecialty in various activities, flexibility and adaptability to obstacles, makes use of the mentioned strategies. As Effectuation, it turns contingencies into possible solutions, ideas into opportunities and innovation, and networking into essential resources for entrepreneurial action, and how Causation recognizes opportunities and implements detailed action plans. We infer that it is possible for SME's use of Effectuation logic, given its predominant characteristics of structural simplicity, the absence of formal and written strategies, and to base the actions from the entrepreneur's point of view, which, through their personal relationships, understands that this is the essence for them. the survival and growth of the organization.
