In the present article we will present a mapping of the sign languages of isolated communities found in Brazil, specifically in the communities far from urban centers, thus contributing to the knowledge and recognition of the sign languages of the country. It is known that, in addition to the sign language, made official by Federal Law No. 10,436 of April 24, 2002, Brazil has at least two languages that could be minimally documented: the Urubu-Kaapor sign language (Kakumasu, 1968) and the sign language known as “Cena” (Pereira, 2013), spoken in the city of Jaicós, in the village of Várzea Queimada, in the interior of Piauí, also in the northeast of the country. However, the survey conducted here points to approximately twelve sign languages used by deaf and isolated communities in Brazil, identified in rural areas and indigenous communities. Regarding the research methodology, a bibliographic and documentary research was conducted from the Capes Thesis and Dissertation Bank, as well as other available literature on the subject. As procedures for data analysis and discussion, a priori, we opted for the content analysis in Bardin (2016), as it presents a special and favorable character to studies of typically qualitative materials. It is hoped that this study can bring more relevant contributions to the issues related to the sign languages of isolated communities in Brazil, their use and registration, associating with other studies developed in the interpretation, translation, mapping and registration of new languages.
