The aim of this study was to determine evidence of an association between changes in blood pressure and intraocular pressure, as well as laboratory variations (urea, creatinine, sodium and potassium) and concomitant eye disorders in dogs with Erlichia canis. Twenty dogs, male and female, of different ages and breeds, treated at the medical clinic sector of the Veterinary University Hospital Ivon Macêdo Tabosa, UFCG, were used. The animals were divided into two experimental groups called the control group (CG), composed of healthy animals, and the erliquiosis group (EG), composed of animals with symptomatology for erlichiosis and positive for the disease in the ELISA immunoenzymatic assay of equal size (n = 10). In both groups, the clinical parameters heart rate, respiratory rate and body temperature were measured, as well as 4 mL of blood were collected for hematocrit determination and urea, creatinine, sodium and potassium dosage. Afterwards, blood pressure, intraocular pressure (IOP), schirmer test and eye examination were performed. Numerical data were compared using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey test (p <0.05) while ophthalmic examination data were analyzed descriptively. No significant changes in laboratory parameters or blood pressures were identified, but a reduction in IOP and the presence of concomitant eye disorders were observed. Thus, it can be concluded that there is no clear correlation between variations in blood pressure and IOP, but that the disease led to a reduction in IOP and the presence of some eye disorders in animals suffering from erlichiosis.
