Cardio and cerebrovascular diseases are currently the major causes of morbidity and mortality in the world, significantly in the elderly. These pathologies are mainly based on the two most prevalent comorbidities: arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus. It is known that pharmacological treatment with antihypertensives and antidiabetics is essential for preventing mortality from these diseases. Therefore, this study aims to present the drugs used by the elderly at the Center for Living and Assisting the Elderly (Conviver) in the control of diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as emphasizing the importance of adherence to treatment. The sample consisted of 46 elderly women, the youngest being 61 years old and the oldest 87 years old. As for the presence of systemic arterial hypertension, 34 patients (73.9%) are carriers. Of these, 24 elderly women reported pharmacological use of antihypertensive drugs. Regarding diabetes mellitus comorbidity, 11 elderly women, that is, (23.91%) had it. Of these, only 3 elderly women stated the continuous and regular use of antidiabetics. In the course of the present study, the importance of using antihypertensive and antidiabetic medications for the prevention of cardio, cerebrovascular and renal diseases was highlighted, in the quest to increase life expectancy and reduce the population's morbidity and mortality.
