The wound is caused by a break in the cutaneous continuity, with compromised tissue protection or physiological functions. In the clinical routine of Veterinary Medicine the causes are many, like bites by fights; traffic-accidents; lacerations of sharp objects; thermal lesions and surgical lesions. Immediately after the onset of the trauma the scarring process begins, the injury stimulates a sequence of events that will regenerate the injured tissue. It is necessary to know the type of injury caused and the cicatricial process involved to determine the appropriate treatment to aid in healing. Therefore, this review aims to expose and discuss the healing process, the possible causes and treatments used in cutaneous lesions.
