This article aims at presenting the book O Turista Aprendiz, by Mário de Andrade, as a possible source for Environmental History. This literary work contains writings about two journeys made by the modernist, who intended to discover the different realities of Brazil. Although they have different confi gurations, the two parts of the book – edited and published posthumously by Telê Lopez – bring the author’s observations that allow us to analyze the interactions between man and nature. Rivers, woods, paths, climates, transportation, frontiers, and movement are some of the possibilities of refl ection offered by the book.
